Perfect in the sense that he was almost exactly like me, we liked the same things, had the same tastes, he knew what kind of stuff I would like, we even supported the same football team… All except for the fact that he wasn't a Christian.

To make things trickier still, some non-Christians have higher morals, and are more faithful and understanding than their fellow Christians.
Each time there seems to be some good reason why we think it would be okay. God is very serious in what He tells us concerning our “affections.” We are told in 2 Corinthians -18: Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
He would now quite happily call himself a Christian and a believer.
Of course, there are no guarantees on that front and I don’t think you should ever go into marriage hoping to change the other person.
